The UCSD Mother Child &
Adolescent HIV Program has offered comprehensive family centered care since
1989. Stephen A. Spector, M.D.,
initially developed a clinic for children with HIV and later created a clinic for their mothers. In 1991, the program expanded to provide
comprehensive prenatal/HIV care for women. In 1996, we organized a program designed to meet the specific
needs of adolescents and young adults (ages 13-24) living with HIV.
Health and social services are funded through Ryan White Treatment Extension Act of 2009, Part A and Part D, health insurance, educational grants and donations. Program research activities are funded by the National Institutes of Health.
