Empower, Mentor, Represent!!!

What is a Peer Advocate?

  • Peer advocacy consists of a variety of support services provided by a peer with experience in the HIV community. A peer advocate is able to share what they have learned. The support services a peer can provide range from being able to attend a medical appointment with you to telling you about a resource that they have found helpful in the community.

What Can a Peer Advocate Do for Me?
  • A peer advocate can:
    • provide emotional support and encouragement.
    • provide advice and suggestions.
    • provide information about resources and community events.
    • help you to become empowered and more knowledgeable.
    • keep in touch and be there when you need someone to listen

How Is Peer Advocacy Different from Case Management?
  • Case management involves assessment of needs, development of a care plan, and coordination of services identified as being needed. Case management focuses attention on specific problems. A professional trained in the human service or nursing profession generally provides case management services.
