Mission Statement

Through research, clinical care, and education, the UCSD Mother Child Adolescent HIV Program seeks to constantly improve the care and treatment of women, children, and youth living with and affected by HIV, and to prevent new HIV transmissions.

History of MCAP

1988-1989 – Dr. Stephen Spector develops the first clinic for children with HIV in San Diego, then creates a clinic for their mothers.

1991– The Program expands to provide comprehensive prenatal and HIV care for women.

1996 – The Program expands again to include adolescents and young adults (ages 13-24).

2000-2004 – MCAP collaborates with the General Hospital In Tijuana, Mexico, becoming the first Binational Pediatric HIV Clinic.

December 12, 2022 – The County of San Diego Proclamation declares December 13th as UCSD Mother Child Adolescent Program Day.

INSURANCE
We accept all major insurance plans, including Medi-Cal (Medicaid) and Medicare. We are a Ryan White site. We have designated staff to assist you with benefits navigation.
